Goals as a board member:

  • Gain an understanding of what our educators need to improve the educational experience of our students and help generate methods to acquire those resources.

  • Ensure that the physical buildings and grounds of our district meet the needs of our students and educators both now and in the future.

  • Find ways to improve the ‘hands on’ educational experiences of our students.

  • Ensure the safety of every individual on our campuses to allow us all to focus on our main mission… providing an educational environment that creates the best outcomes for those we serve.

I spent the entirety of my 33 year teaching career as a Physical Science educator in the East Pennsboro Area School District and I have called East Pennsboro Township home for over 20 years. My wife, Rainie, also is a career long educator in EPASD and lifelong resident of the township. I have 3 sons who graduated from Juniata County School District and a stepdaughter who graduated from East Pennsboro Area School District.

I graduated from Juniata High School in 1984 and went on to Shippensburg University, where I graduated in May of 1988 with a BS in Biology and General Science - I acquired my first teaching and coaching jobs at East Pennsboro in that same year. Over the course of my career I have been trained in many educational initiatives, multiple waves of new technology in both hardware and software, and have been fortunate enough to meet thousands of students and watch them grow to pursue a wide variety of careers.  In 2019 I presented at ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) with two web-based software creators that focus on measuring school climate and improving student awareness of their own learning practices to reach their academic goals.  I have served as a trainer for several new software programs that were selected by the district, multiple years as an 8th grade team leader, and spent over a decade as the middle school science department chairperson.  Over the years I have been a chaperone for countless school events and an organizer for many other student experiences including science fairs, Physics days at Hershey Park, as well as water quality testing trips to the Conodoguinet Creek.  Along with serving as a coach in East Pennsboro for both football and track, I later continued as a youth sports coach for football and baseball for over 20 years in Juniata County. After many years of science education and coaching experience, I have come to recognize that building positive relationships is a crucial component for developing a positive educational community.

After retiring from the classroom in 2021, I continue to work to improve k-12 education by supporting public school initiatives and serving as an advisory board member of Science Is Elemental, an organization created to improve the quality of science education in elementary school classrooms.  Continuing my passion for improving our atmosphere, I also serve as a solar consultant helping homeowners understand and acquire residential solar arrays.

My new focus as a retired classroom educator is to use my experience to look for ways to improve the educational experience for our East Pennsboro students, educators, parents and community as a whole by forming relationships with those that can make this goal a reality.

“What issue do you think your school board should address?”

Our district’s educational experts are also the individuals who deliver curriculum to our students. Our whole mission for existing as a school district is to provide the best educational experience that we can for those students that we serve. My focus will be to learn from our educators,  district staff, and students on what their needs are to improve the experience for everyone we serve in the most fiscally responsible way possible.  Schools are evolving. We need to be malleable enough to meet the ever changing needs of our students to allow them to transition into their career lives as smoothly as possible. Our responsibility as board members is to find ways to meet the needs of our students, educators and support staff to create an environment where everyone can thrive.
